Change of logo design

before my tv logo looked like the one below, the problem is most of the logos don't have the name of the channel and it was unclear when i showed it people because they could'nt read "direct" they said it was unclear so i decided jus to use the initials "SD" it sounds effective and now the to letters need to actually look affective. i therefore hid all the layers except for the background and the dna strand by removing the eye icon in the layer area.

i then changed my idea by indeed giving it the initials "SD" i used two different fonts to enhance the logo more and making them seem seperate hence "science" and "direct". I used the dna strand and did the following: Layer>right click layer 3 (which was the DNA strand)>dubplicate layer>ok: and put it in the four corners of the new ident. i aslo selected layer>layer style>blending options: i then selected all the options such as drop shadow, inner shadow, inner glow and changed the opacity, angle of light, distance and size. this resulted in the below.

How Do You Find Music For A Science Channel?

when choosing the music i had to ask myself three questions:

1) What mood does the music bring across?

2) the speed of the music?

3) does it fit with the concept of the whole product?

the reason why i came up with this questions to find the right music is because with reference to question 1, if the music was bringing forth a mood of happiness it wouldn't compliment a science channel. the reason i say this because the notion of the Science TV ident is to prove that it is a station of factual and science that can be taught throught television, a new era of science if you like.

A channel based on science would have mysterious music, mind blowing and victorious. therefore the mood of the music would need to be serious/mellow or even experimental.

the speed of the music must be slow to impact the elements of the mood of the music; serious/mellow/experimental if it was fast it wouldn't suit the mood nor suit the speed of the moving images in after affects.

the third question is an evaluation of the other questions posed. If question 1+2 elements were added then it would fit in with the elements of the product because it would not only meet requirements (question 2)but would make it viewable and enjoyable at the same time.

browsing some websites i thought about some really heroic music sum sort of legend, a agent then i came up with using the James Bond music from gold finger, which was my favourite Bond movie to date and the music was perfect.

How did i begin to find the images i wanted


I first begun by going onto a search engine such as google and typing science in the google search box.

i also done this for the three science elements "Biology, Chemistry and Physics"


The search results were then present but i need images not factual information.

I actually need a logo in order to make an establishment on the tv ident to show evidence of the channels name, therefore looking at these i will need to come up with one. Below are examples of TV Logos used on todays television.

immediately as my tutor was explaining the conventions of adobe after affects i drifted of into imagning my idea, striaght away i had an idea about space. but then i thought hey, Sci-fi channel already exists and its not 100% space. Then i understood that it doesnt have to be a real ident for such examples bbc, itv,e4 etc. this is when i came up with my concept to focus on something scientific, i like science and want to increase my skills since the last project "web banner" so i decided to do some research...

during lesson time i discovered my new task for the seocnd project to create a "TV Ident".

i can either create my own ident or create a new television ident for a channel that doesnt exist. conepts will be taken into account such as techniques learnt in class. learning about lighting, cameras and three-dimensional methods. I will think about if i will add them planning will soon commence.
